VEGAN MADE BODY WASHES

SH*T WE DON'T USE

Meet our roster of ingredients that we vow to never use in any of our products. We don't cut corners; we will always avoid common and lesser-known chemicals, synthetics, and preservatives that may have a range of adverse effects on your skin and body.

Aluminum

  • Role: Active ingredient in antiperspirants

  • Used in: Antiperspirant deodorants

  • Reason for avoidance: Aluminum works by blocking sweat glands, but studies on its possible connection to breast cancer show mixed results. To be cautious, we avoid this ingredient.

Parabens

  • Role: Preservative

  • Used in: Numerous products, including shampoos

  • Reason for avoidance: Parabens (e.g., methylparaben, ethylparaben) are suspected of being endocrine disruptors or even carcinogenic. Due to the uncertainty of the research, we choose to avoid them.

Phthalates

  • Role: Fragrance solvent

  • Used in: Many products, including candles

  • Reason for avoidance: Phthalates have been linked to adverse health effects, including endocrine disruption, after long-term exposure. Therefore, we avoid using them.

Sulfates

  • Role: Cleansing agent

  • Used in: Soap, shampoo, and other personal care products

  • Reason for avoidance: Although effective at cleaning, sulfates can be harsh and lead to skin irritation. We opt for gentler alternatives.

DMDM Hydantoin

  • Role: Synthetic preservative

  • Used in: Multiple products

  • Reason for avoidance: DMDM Hydantoin releases formaldehyde over time, which may trigger allergies or dermatitis in sensitive individuals. We steer clear of this ingredient.

FD&C Colors

  • Role: Synthetic colorants

  • Used in: Various products

  • Reason for avoidance: These artificial dyes (e.g., Blue #1, Yellow #5) serve no function other than color. We prefer to use natural or no colorants at all.

Mineral Oil

  • Role: Moisturizer

  • Used in: Lotions, creams

  • Reason for avoidance: As a petroleum-derived product, mineral oil poses environmental concerns due to the extraction and refining process. We avoid it for sustainability reasons.

MIT/CIT (Methylisothiazolinone / Methylchloroisothiazolinone)

  • Role: Synthetic preservatives

  • Used in: Many products

  • Reason for avoidance: These preservatives can cause allergic reactions and skin sensitivity. Methylisothiazolinone was even banned for use in leave-on products in the EU.

Nitro & Polycyclic Musks

  • Role: Synthetic fragrance substitutes

  • Used in: Various products

  • Reason for avoidance: While created to replace animal-derived musks, these chemicals have been linked to endocrine and reproductive disruptions in animal studies. Due to the lack of conclusive human studies, we choose to avoid them as a precaution.

Petrolatum

  • Role: Moisturizer

  • Used in: Creams, balms, ointments

  • Reason for avoidance: Petrolatum, derived from petroleum, is avoided due to environmental concerns related to petroleum extraction and processing.

PEGs (Polyethylene Glycols)

  • Role: Emulsifier

  • Used in: Lotions, creams, and hair products

  • Reason for avoidance: These petrochemical-based ingredients may contain harmful impurities like ethylene oxide and 1,4-dioxane, which are known carcinogens.

Soybean Oil

  • Role: Base oil

  • Used in: Many products

  • Reason for avoidance: While there are no known risks of topical application, soybean oil’s estrogenic properties in food raise concerns. As a men's brand, we prefer to avoid it out of caution.
